Word In Your Ear Dec. 4th

Danny Baker, the DJ, writer and polymath who has been elevated to national treasure status in the last week, has been added to the bill for the Word In Your Ear show at the Lexington in London's swinging Islington district on December 4th.

The Word In Your Ear series of shows was pioneered by the late, lamented Word magazine and past evenings have featured Divine Comedy, The Blockheads, Wilko Johnson and Scritti Politti.

The magazine's David Hepworth and Alex Gold are continuing the tradition of brilliant music, brilliant audiences and unflagging evenings of all-round entertainment.

"There are no gaps, no shifting your weight from foot to foot while roadies say 'two'. This is non-stop entertainment. It begins at eight and finishes at eleven. It's our promise that you'll stagger into the Islington night feeling entertained up to here. #holdshandtoforehead," says David Hepworth, who will be presenting his near-legendary 1971 the-annus-mirabilis-of-the-rock-album disco throughout the evening.

Danny, a long-time friend of the late magazine, will be reading from, and signing copies of, his newly published autobiography Going To Sea In A Sieve. "I have Sharpie at the ready and tongue clamped twixt teeth at side of mouth in deep thought," he promises.

Danny's appearance is one part of a full evening's entertainment which climaxes with the rousing, all-singing, all-dancing, all-shantying performance of headliners Skinny Lister, stars of an earlier Word In Your Ear show.

Because this show takes place at the beginning of the festive season, the acts are being encouraged to prepare some appropriately festive material. It's not to be missed, for friends of Word both old and new.

Further additions to the bill will be announced later this week.
